Hi, my name is Mike Gates and I am pleased to introduce myself as the new Editor of Folk Monthly magazine with effect from April 2015.

Kingate Press Printers have printed the magazine for many years but under the guidance of Pam Bishop, whom many of you will know from your association with Folk Monthly and the folk scene generally.

Pam has always run the magazine as a non-profit activity and we have agreed to take it over on the same basis to ensure its continuation as she has chosen to step down.  We would like to thank Pam heartily for her dedication and commitment to the magazine during her time in charge and for developing a successful and valued music magazine

My wife Helena and I, the directors of Kingate Printers,  are music lovers ourselves and some of you may know me (and our daughter Kia) from the local folk and other scenes.  I also write Jazz revues for UK Vibe and manage band and recordings.  Helena and I also acquired Skycom in Nov 2014 enabling our printing and duplicating activities to broaden and fully embrace CD and dvd production.   Our aim is particularly to support small runs for independent musicians so please ring us for a chat if you want media replication, whether it be for 10 or 1,000,000 off.  Being printers too, we really hope that we are the right people to take over Folk Monthly and ensure it continues in the same vein.

Write for Folk Monthly

We positively welcome well written articles that reflect the presentation and development of Folk Music, Song, Dance and Storytelling, especially from the Midlands. Reviews of cds, gigs and festivals, obituaries and more pleasurably news of up and coming artists appearing on the scene would be great as would articles on any other area of Folk activity. We are not just interested in ‘words’, however. We would love to receive photographs or other graphics that we could use for our front covers.

Please simply e mail your contribution to info@folkmonthly.org.uk
